The International Chamber of Commerce's (ICC) new book, INCOTERMS® 2020, was released on 10 September 2019. This book should be read in conjunction with the INCOTERMS® 2020 book, it does not substitute for it.This commentary by Bob Ronai, the first Australian member of the ICC's Drafting Group and only the second non-lawyer on the Group, takes you the reader through the 2020 rules from a different perspective, and where Bob thinks it appropriate he pulls no punches. Unlike the official book, here Bob goes into the advantages and disadvantages of each rule, and how they work or don't work with letters of credit. Bob describes how this publication came about, not just from the members of the Drafting Group but with over 3,000 contributions from ICC National Committees and others. Finally Bob, tongue in cheek (well just a little) tells you what he would like to change in these rules if he had the power to do so as a committee of one.Bob is the owner of the Incoterms group on LinkedIn and has been passionate about the rules reflecting practice, not the rules trying to dramatically change long-standing practice.
